Working and finishing Wenge
Coarse, open grain with sharp splinters that can fester, so wear gloves during handling; its fine dust is a well-known respiratory and skin irritant, and it has a strong blunting effect on cutters.
Open pores need a filler for a smooth film finish; oil finishes deepen the near-black colour nicely. Because of its irritant dust and splinters, it is not a common choice for cutting boards.
