Working and finishing Black Walnut
Works easily where the grain is straight and regular. Planer tear-out is common on irregular or figured stock — curl, crotch and burl all want a helical head, a light cut, or scraping and sanding instead. Glues well.
Low blotch risk and no deep, aggressive grain, so it does not need a heavy film build. Takes oil and hardwax finishes well and carries a natural lustre under simple oil. Rarely stained — the colour is the reason people buy it.
