Live Edge Slabs in Edmonton
Kingma Lumber stocks kiln-dried live edge slabs at 4607 91 Ave NW, Edmonton. Every slab is one of a kind and is listed online with its tag number, width, length and thickness, so you can shortlist slabs at home and then see them in person at the yard. We can also flatten your slab in our shop before you take it home.
Species in the yard
Slabs sell one at a time, so the mix changes. At the time of writing the live edge slab collection includes:
- Black walnut, the largest group, from narrow shelf and bench slabs to wide dining table slabs and bookmatched pairs.
- Claro walnut burl pieces with heavy figure, from small accent pieces to large feature slabs.
- Big leaf maple and maple, white oak and ash.
- Arbutus, purpleheart, black heart, rosewood and a red cedar slab.

How slabs are listed and sized
- Tag number. Each slab has a code such as BW27 or BWC77A. Slabs ending in A and B are bookmatched halves cut one after the other, which can be joined into a wider top.
- Width as a range. A live edge wanders, so width is often listed as a range, for example 20-23 inches.
- Sizes. Current walnut slabs run from about 9 inches wide for shelves and mantels to 26 inches wide and 13 feet long for dining tables, plus at least one slab 32 inches wide. Most slabs are 8/4 (2 inches) to 3 1/2 inches thick.
- Price per piece. The price on the listing is for that exact slab.
Choosing a slab
Start from the finished piece. Measure the space, decide the finished length and width, and add 6 to 12 inches of length so checked ends can be trimmed. Then look at both faces: knots, checks and bark inclusions add character but may need butterfly keys or epoxy. Our guide How to Choose a Live Edge Slab for a Dining Table walks through seating sizes, thickness and species in more detail.
Flattening and finishing help
Most slabs are not perfectly flat out of the kiln. We offer live edge slab flattening in our shop: $220 minimum for slabs under 9 square feet and $23 per square foot above that. Sanding is available at $28 per square foot ($200 minimum). If you would rather do it yourself, read How to Flatten a Live Edge Slab.
For finishing, we stock OSMO hardwax oils and other finishes, and steel table legs to suit dining, coffee and console tables.
See slabs in person
Photos only show so much. Colour, figure and small checks are easier to judge in the yard, and you can lay a tape on the slab. Write down the tag numbers you like, call ahead so we can pull them out, and bring a vehicle that fits the length; we load it for you. Larger slabs are usually picked up in Edmonton, and freight within Canada can be quoted.
Common questions
Where can I buy live edge slabs in Edmonton?
Kingma Lumber keeps live edge slabs at 4607 91 Ave NW, Edmonton. Every slab is listed online with its tag number and size, and you can see it in person seven days a week.
Can I see a slab before I buy it?
Yes. Note the tag number from the listing (for example BW27), call (780) 229-7681 so we can have it ready, and come look at both faces and edges.
How much does a live edge slab cost?
Slabs are priced per piece because every one is different. At the time of writing, small walnut burl pieces start under $200, narrow walnut slabs for shelves and benches run a few hundred dollars, and wide dining table slabs cost from about $750 to several thousand. Each listing shows the current price.
Do you flatten slabs?
Yes. Slab flattening is done in our shop: $220 minimum for slabs under 9 square feet and $23 per square foot over 9 square feet. Call with the slab size for a quote.
What thickness should a slab be for a dining table?
Look for 8/4 (2 inches) or thicker. Flattening removes some thickness, and a 2 inch slab usually finishes around 1 3/4 inches, which is a good dining table thickness.
