Coast Redwood colour, grain, and figure

The heartwood goes from a pale pinkish brown through a deep reddish brown. The sapwood is pale white or yellow.

The grain is generally straight, although figured pieces may be wavy or irregular. The texture is coarse and the sheen is low.

Working notes

Normally easy to work using hand tools or power machinery, yet planer tearout can show up on figured pieces whose grain is curly, wavy or irregular. It glues and finishes well.

Severe reactions seldom occur, but coast redwood is reported as a sensitizer.

Coast Redwood should be sold by project fit: colour, workability, durability, and the format the customer actually needs.
