Heartwood is a reddish brown ranging from light to medium, occasionally with darker stripes, and it deepens in colour with age.
The grain is straight or interlocked, the texture medium and the natural luster high.
Working notes
Hand and power tools cut it fairly easily overall, although interlocked grain can tear out, especially in planing and other machining. Its naturally high silica content dulls cutters.
