Afrormosia colour, grain, and figure
The heartwood is a yellowish brown that can carry a reddish or olive tint, and it deepens with age. Its thin sapwood is a pale yellow that contrasts clearly with the heartwood.
The grain is normally straight but may be interlocked. The texture is fine and even, and the wood has a good natural sheen.
Working notes
Afrormosia works easily by hand or machine in nearly every way, although planing boards with interlocked grain can tear the surface. It dulls cutting edges slightly and will form dark stains when it touches iron in damp conditions.
Serious reactions are rare, but afrormosia is a known sensitizer in some people.
